What does this number mean?
Every return is two losses: the order profit that vanished, and the cost of handling it (return shipping, inspection, restocking). A "normal" 8% return rate can erase 10–15% of your actual profit. The scariest number: the wipe-out threshold — the rate at which returns consume all your profit. Most returns come from broken expectations: missing size charts or photos prettier than reality.
